Absence
Effectively managing absence in your Business can save you significant cost and time. If you fail to manage absence effectively you can lower team morale, individual and team productivity and it takes up significant managerial time and resources. Here are a few tips for you.
Things to consider?
- Have you made contact with the individual and agreed next steps?
- Have you agreed a contact strategy and by what means? (phone/email/ face to face)?
- Reminded the team member of the requirement for a Self-Certification and/or Fit Note?
- Updated the team member sick record on your HR System or equivalent?
- If the absence reason could be considered a disability under the terms of the Equality Act 2010, and any reasonable adjustments?
- Would a referral to Occupational Health help, subject to severity of illness, number of occurrences, and longevity of absence?
- Checked previous absence records and established if there is a pattern of absence?
- Do absence levels trigger any absence management or discipline procedure?
- Remember to undertake a return to work discussion.
- Provide support and undertake agreed actions.
